Cali K9®‘s founder, owner, dog trainer and canine behavior expert Jas Leverette, was born in New York and grew up in Oakland, California. During his youth, he owned and trained dogs and horses, played youth football with the Oakland Dynamites, and participated in equestrian sports, including jumping, dressage, vaulting and trail riding. At Oakland High School, he played football and was an Oakland Athletic League wrestling champion.

He got his start training equines with natural horse training techniques that use body language to communicate. He’s trained hundreds of companion dogs, working dogs, and law enforcement K9s and dozens of professional dog trainers.

He was voted Best of Silicon Valley Pet Trainer for the past seven years in a row…2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018!

Jas is passionate about his work and has the natural ability to recognize drive, temperament, and disposition in all breeds and to communicate with animals. He has the know-how to optimize a dog’s true potential and the skill to temper and train even the most difficult dog.

Jas is married to Nouhaila Leverette and lives in the Bay Area. He owns two Dutch Shepherds, two Belgian Malinois, two German Shepherds and a French bulldog.


Rich Akina is an expert modern dog trainer and the Manager of Dog Training Operations. He is the head trainer and senior evaluator and teaches beginning through advanced group obedience classes, agility and private sessions. He was born and raised in San Jose and attended San Jose State University. He has owned dogs his entire life, including pugs, labs, staffies, pit bulls and a Dutch Shepherd.

Rich started his career as a Cali K9® client with his pit bull Devin several years ago. He possesses the intuitive ability to interact with all canine breeds and a natural aptitude for dog training, behavior recognition, and modification.

Dedicated to the Cali K9® Modern Dog Training Method™, he is the leader of the dog training team that was voted Best of Silicon Valley Pet Trainer for the past seven years in a row. He participates in protection dog sports in his spare time.


Frenchy is an experienced dog trainer and teaches private sessions and works with the Board & Train dogs and Cali K9® Day Camp. Born and raised in France, he owned a Rottweiler and an American Staffordshire as a teenager and served in the French military. He’s been a member of the Cali K9® team since 2016 and currently owns a Belgian Malinois and a South African Boerboel.


Savy is an experienced dog trainer who works with the Cali K9® Board & Train and Day Camp dogs and assists with group classes. A Bay Area native and animal lover, she grew up around herding and hunting dogs, which fueled her passion for dog training. At Sonoma State University, she focused on animal behavior and has five years of dog obedience training experience. She is excited to be a part of the Cali K9® team and currently owns a border collie mix named Sara.


Taren is an experienced dog trainer who works with the Cali K9® Board & Train and Day Camp dogs and assists in group classes. Raised in San Jose, she grew up with Chesapeake Bay retrievers where she learned through training them how all dogs learn differently. She also started riding ponies and horses at a young age and gained a respect for animals and their trainers. As a Cali K9® client training her American Staffordshire/Australian cattle dog puppy in 2015, she fell in love with the Cali K9® method which renewed her passion for dog training. She looks forward to dock diving competitions with her young Chesapeake Bay retriever.


Geino is an experienced dog trainer who works with the Cali K9® Board & Train and Day Camp dogs. Born and raised in the East Bay, he owned dogs his entire life, including a pit bull/Labrador retriever mix, a Yorkie, a Shar-Pei, and most recently a Doberman named Major. He enjoys boating, fishing, spending time with friends and family, and training his dobie Major using the Cali K9® method.
